The Watches Online auction organized by Sotheby’s featured an exclusive selection of 114 watches from the best watch brands chosen according to their condition, rarity and quality. Total sale including costs : 800 250 $ USD, selling more than 85% of the lots presented.
BEST RESULTS
Lot 14 : Patek Philippe ref. 5990/1A, Nautilus model, stainless steel double time zone automatic chronograph wristwatch with local and domestic indicators, sold for 87 500 $ USD.
Lot 20 : Panerai ref. PAM 203, Luminor 1950 model, oversized stainless steel limited edition cushion form wristwatch with 8 day power reserve, sold for 40 000 $ USD.
Lot 12 : Patek Philippe ref. 5140G, white gold bracelet watch with perpetual calendar and leap year indication of the moon phases and day/night indication, sold for 40 000 $ USD.
BEST PERFORMANCES
Lot 76 : Franck Muller, automatic wristwatch in yellow gold and barrel shape, or 306% variation between the low estimate and the final result (8 125 $ USD).
Lot 45 : Van Cleef & Arpels, cadenas, watch set with yellow gold and diamonds, or 213% variation between the low estimate and the final result (9 375 $ USD).
Lot 42 : Audemars Piguet, white gold bracelet watch, or 200% variation between the low estimate and the final result (3 000 $ USD).
BREAKDOWN BY BRANDS
Patek Philippe
On the first step of the podium, with a watch having surpassed the 80 000 $ USD mark, average per lot 17 221 $ USD. A result based on the highest bid of the sale with lot 14.
Rolex
On the second step of the podium, with a watch above 15 000 $ USD, average per lot 7 080 $ USD.
Audemars Piguet
On the third step of the podium, with a watch at 30 000 $ USD, average per lot 15 225 $ USD.
These three brands represent a total revenue of 377 875 $ USD, or nearly 50% of the total sale.
AVERAGE PRICE PER LOT
Based on the number of lots, 114 in total, including 15 unsold lots, the average price of a lot was 8 093 $ USD.
CONCLUSION
If the pace of online only auctions accelerates at Sotheby’s, we still find a high average price with some interesting results in the price range between 5’000 and 50’000 USD. We will certainly have some good surprises to come with the multiplication of these sales for international auction houses.
