The « Rare Watches », auction, organized by Christie’s in Geneva on November 8, 2021, featured an exclusive selection of 118 timepieces from the best watch brands chosen for their condition, rarity and quality. The total sale, including fees, was $24,700,913 USD, representing 100% of the lots presented.

BEST RESULTS

Lot 88 : Patek Philippe, Ref. 2523. The first 18k gold double crown world-time wristwatch with 24-hour indication and wavy guilloche gold dial seen for the first time Sold for $2,925,519 USD.

Lot 33 : Rolex. An experimental automatic wristwatch with a historically significant stainless steel and gold bracelet, specifically designed for deep pressure testing. Sold for $2,070,873 USD.

BEST PERFORMANCES

Lot 102 : Audemars Piguet, a very rare stainless steel wristwatch with observatory-style dial. 785% variation between the low estimate and the final result ($116,418 USD).

Lot 44 : Jaquet Droz. set of two very fine and exceptionally rare gold, enamel, pearl and gemstone quarter-repeating “perpetual” watches with center seconds. 525% variation between the low estimate and the final result ($273,925 USD).

Lot 69 : Vacheron Constantin. An elegant and rare platinum skeletonized self-winding perpetual calendar wristwatch with moon phases. 431% change between the low estimate and the final result ($116,503 USD).

Patek Philippe was the highest-priced brand in the sale, with a watch priced at $2,925,519 USD.

Rolex

Achieving the second highest price of the sale, with a watch selling for $2,070,873 USD

Audemars Piguet

With a watch that reached the price of $547,850 USD, it was the third highest performing brand in this sale.

These three brands accounted for total proceeds of $18,298,190 USD, or over 74% of the total sale.

AVERAGE PRICE PER LOT

Given the number of lots, 118 in total, with no unsold lots, the average price per lot was $209,330 USD.

CONCLUSION

This sale once again demonstrated the dynamism of the auction market, with the following brands in the top three: Patek Philippe, Rolex and Audemars Piguet
