The art of time as a heritage
Aguttes october 8 2024
The house of Aguttes, which celebrated its 50ᵉ anniversary this year, will be dispersing a fabulous collection of antique watchmaking assembled by a French collector on Tuesday 8October 2024. This event, entitled ‘L’art du temps en héritage’, is a tribute to all French, Swiss and English watchmakers from the end of the XVIIᵉ to the beginning of theXXᵉ century. This collection, which includes almost 70 pocket watches and collectors’ items, will be presented for the first time at auction. Assembled by a French amateur, this impressive collection was entrusted to Aguttes by the heirs of its owner.Among the pieces that will be offered to collectors, a gold watch made by Édouard Juvet, a watchmaker in Fleurier, will delight connoisseurs (lot 24). The back is decorated with an enamelled scene depicting Titus and Berenice, a couple as mythical as they are tragic. Estimated at between €30,000 and €50,000, this watch, made for the Chinese market in the early 19th century, is one of many marvels to be discovered. Fans of complications will be particularly interested in the chronograph with minute repeater, perpetual calendar and moon phases, signed by Geneva watchmaker Jaccard EV, who produced a significant proportion of his timepieces for the Latin American market (lot 47). Following on from the sale ‘Une histoire du temps’, organised in 2022, at which Aguttes brought together the international community of antique watch collectors, this forthcoming auction will feature a new chronograph with a minute repeater, a perpetual calendar and moon phases, signed by the Geneva watchmaker Jaccard EV, who produced a significant proportion of his timepieces for the Latin American market (lot 47).
